🚨Is bullying happening at your workplace? 🚨
With all the media around Strictly Come Dancing, it highlights how a situation can quickly escalate.
A recent survey revealed that 47% of UK employees have witnessed bullying or harassment in their workplaces, with 1 in 10 experiencing it first-hand.
Bullying is a real problem – it can cause serious distress to those affected and can cause you a big headache if it escalates at work.
🛡️ How to deal with workplace bullying 🛡️
Awareness: You and your team need to know what is classed as bullying and what could be the cause.
Encourage reporting: Create an open-door environment so your people feel confident reporting any issues to their manager or directly to you. Address it immediately. Speak to the culprit informally and highlight your expectations.
Set boundaries: If you witness bullying, let the person know that their behaviour is unacceptable. Sometimes, they may not realise the impact of their actions. Encourage your employees to do the same (if they feel comfortable).
Document everything: Keep a record of everything, and issue anything discussed or agreed in writing.
Offer support: This can be a distressing time, so offer your support to any affected employees and inform them of other help that may be available, such as counselling services.
